Battle of the Cowshed XXV
Jesse & Shelli have been dating for 25 years today!
We took off of work and stayed the night in a screened shelter cabin at Blanco State Park and enjoyed this beautiful view.
The sounds of the river were right outside our door.
We had grilled steaks for dinner. And a nice campfire to sit by while we watched the sun set.
There was a built-in table inside the cabin and we set up a pretty table to have dinner together.
Here is the table by candlelight.
The next day we went out on the river in a canoe and did a little fishing.
A "little" fishing is exactly what happened. That's a perch in Jesse's left hand.
At least we caught some nice scenery.
We had an "odd duck" visit us back at the cabin.
We had a picnic lunch by the dam and then posed for a shot of us still together - 25 years later.
This pretty much sums us up - his and her hat rack.

Meet the Mustangs 2010
This video is of the freshman boys coming out of the tunnel.
It is a bit blurry, but it's great to see Landon's first tunnel run as a Mustang!
Here's Landon - clearly not paying attention to mom in the stands trying to snap his picture! Now he's got his head down - still in an unphotographable position.
Finally we can see his face!
He's #75.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

'Tis the Season
Football Season, that is.
Landon started 2-a-days this week and had a squad scrimmage on Friday.
He played offense and defense, and we heard the coaches yelling at the other players to get more aggressive because "Spruiell is in on every play!"
His first "real" scrimmage is Saturday, August 14th at Hays.

We tested the urban legend of painting a car with less than $50 of equipment using Rustoleum paint and foam rollers on a fender of Justin's old 1950 Dodge Cornet.
The original idea for this came from a message board post here: moparts: paint job on a budget!?
We also found some good information at the Instructables website
and an entire forum dedicated to this method - Rolled On.
We mixed Sail Blue and White to get a light blue shade.
Next, we sanded the bondo and rusty parts of the fender.
Then, we rolled on the first two coats of paint thinned with mineral spirits.
Here is the final coat before we did the last wetsanding and waxing. It looks pretty good!

Update for 2010
Been working on the house a bit since the new year began (the-cowshed.blogspot.com).
Landon is running track at the Middle School.
Randy is still working at the bakery and taking classes at night.
Corky and Marci are still stationed in Florida. He got Technician of the Month last month and got to eat lunch with a 4-star general!
Justin is working and considering some options to finish school this summer.
Jesse is running free poker games downtown on Wednesdays and taking a few online classes.
Shelli is trying to keep her head above water at school.
