What's in the Bag?

This is a suggested list of what we have found helpful to pack in your sports bag if you are going to a track meet.

umbrella, sunglasses, and/or hat with brim
sunscreen and lip balm with sunscreen
trail mix, granola bars, fruit, or energy bars & sack lunch or concession stand money

blanket for the bus and to lay on when you are not competing
book to read (in case you are only doing a few events and get bored on the bus)
cd/mp3 player & headphones (for the bus only - many meets will not allow these devices)
meet t-shirt money (these range from $10 - $20 usually)
cell phone to call your mom & dad to come pick you up when you get back
tennis ball or tape to set your marks

Parents also want to remember:
cash for tickets/admission & parking
map to stadium destination
schedule of events w/ your child's events highlighted & a watch
stadium seat
stopwatch, clipboard or notepad, & a pen to record results
small first aid kit and a cell phone
camera or camcorder & film

Second Best is not a bad thing

Randy got FOUR SILVER MEDALS in Austin today at the AAU District Track meet! (high jump, discus, shot put, and pole vault) That means he automatically qualifies for the regional meet in 3 weeks in San Antonio. Now he has to decide which event to scratch because he is pre-qualified for the javelin already and he can only enter 4 events at regionals. What a dilemma!

There is not a picture of pole vault, but he said that the officials' eyes got as big as dinner plates when he told them he needed a pole for a 200-pound pole-vaulter (guess it WAS a little hard to believe!).

Memories of Nanny Cat

"Some of the angels are in charge of helping heal sick animals and pets. And if they don't make the animals get better, they help the child get over it." - Vicki, 8

We will need several angels to help us get over the 15+ wonderful years that we shared with this sweet kitty. She loved "her" kids and being in the sunshine - and she loved to sleep in the strangest places:

TrainwreckTheTrackstar in Abilene

Corky called from McMurry yesterday after he FINALLY got to get in his first triple jump of the season. He got 2nd with a 45' 3" jump -- that is a foot more than what he jumped at State & Texas Relays in high school! Here is a link to the HyTek results. He also finished 7th in the long jump.

Happy Birthday Jesse!

The boys were all here for Spring Break with their girlfriends. Corky and his girlfriend Marcy decided to wish Jesse a happy birthday by plastering signs all over the place!
This was on the roof...

Tarleton State University Invitational Track Meet

Photos of Corky at the 2007 Tarleton State University Invitational Track Meet - his first meet as a freshman at UTPB!

Here he is in his warmups (so cute....awwwww)

Here are a couple of pictures of him warming up with his teammates.

Here he is with Coach Gray (in the white shirt) stretching before the long jump. She said that he did pretty well for his first meet as a freshman.

He got 8th place - jumping about a 20' jump!

The last event for him was the 400 meters. He was second in his heat. He ran about a 50-something and still placed 8th overall.

Landon Science Fair Project

Landon hypothesized that only the potato would run the potato clock.
Well, he found out that all of his veggies and fruits would run the clock!

MFHS JV Soccer vs. Lake Travis

Randy's last game of the season
They lost to Lake Travis 4-1, but he did a great job at goalie!

For the varsity, it was senior night, and Shelli had to walk one of her "adopted" boys onto the field again this year.

!

The varsity tied 1-1 and when they went to the shoot-out there was some moments of excitement with the UIL rules -- Coach Nave walked the rulebook out to the field to clarify a call!

This is why we sent our son to college?

Corky boxes a VERY LARGE guy who we can only identify as "Bunga" in the dorms at UTPB.
